100 Things to Go Green

Starting in January of 2008, Turlock will begin a year-long calendar of celebratory activities, in recognition of 100 years of incorporation as a city. The Centennial festivities will include an array of events and programs, reflecting the historical events and happenings that have shaped Turlock into what it is today. The annual theme aims at providing a nostalgic glimpse into yesteryear and boasting public recognition of past contributions to the city’s establishment, as a viable and flourishing community.

In conjunction with these events, the City’s Municipal Services Department is incorporating a variety of environmentally themed activities to encourage the community’s participation in preserving Turlock’s next 100 years with the introduction of the “100 Things to Go Green” outreach program. The campaign serves as recognition of past achievements, but more so encourages citizens to strengthen their ties to the community and focus future efforts on maintaining a clean, livable and healthy environment for the next century as well. Some of those “100 things” will include: Weekly E-tips and Go Green newsletter publications that will provide ideas on how residents and business owners can step up their conservation and waste management practices; a special “Going Green” section on the new City of Turlock website, that will provide a plethora of information on Environmental Preservation and issues currently affecting Turlock; and the first “Go Green Week”, an elementary educational outreach program which centers the week’s activities and a suggested curriculum focus around environmental preservation, and our annual Health Family-Healthy Earth Day held in conjunction with National Earth Day- just to name a few.

The Municipal Services Department a full service department provides essential services to its customers, including supply of drinking water, wastewater collection and treatment, storm water collection and treatment, open park space as well as healthy recreational activities for the Community.
